LaTeX Testing

This page allows you to test what your LaTeX file will look like if you do not have LaTeX installed at your location.

You must run this script on the IVS home site at ivscc.gsfc.nasa.gov. The script will not work if you are using one of the IVS mirror sites.

  1. Upload your .tex and .ps files to ftp://ivscc.gsfc.nasa.gov/gmincoming. Be sure to use the file naming conventions.
  2. Fill in the file name in the form below (e.g., vandenberg).
  3. Submit the form and wait for the output page. It may take some time to convert your file to Postscript format.
  4. If the LaTeX run succeeds, the processing script will try to run LaTeX a second time, to resolve any references (i.e., to convert figure and table numbers from ?? to the final numbers in the output Postscript version).
  5. The screen output will display a status message that indicates either the failure to create the output postscript file ("The file /users/ftp/gmincoming/author_name.ps does not exist") or the success ("View your output at gmincoming/author_name.ps"). But even if you receive a message of success, please view the output postscript file to make sure it looks okay, because if a problem occurs with the figures, LaTeX may appear to work perfectly but not produce readable figures. To access the output postscript file you can either:
  6. Make any changes or corrections and repeat the steps above.
  7. If the output .ps file does not appear initially or does not appear to be updated by successive runs, and if there does not appear to be a LaTeX error, your browser might have a caching problem in which it cannot see updates to the gmincoming directory. In this case, please refresh your browser. (In netscape, hold down your terminal's SHIFT key, then press netscape's RELOAD button.)
