Analysis Center Response Form Joint CSTG/IERS Call for Participation International VLBI Service for Geodesy and Astrometry Analysis Center name: Haystack Observatory Type of analysis center: global___ special__X_ Parent/Funding organization: NASA Goddard Space Flight Center Name and title of primary scientific/technical contact: Dr. Arthur Niell, Principal Research Scientist Name and title of administrative contact: Dr. Arthur Niell Mailing address: Haystack Observatory, Westford, MA 01886 Phone: 1-978-692-4764 Fax: 1-781-981-0590 E-mail address: aniell@haystack.mit.edu Web address: http://web.haystack.mit.edu/vlbi/vlbi.html If applying as a Special Analysis Center, describe the special type(s) of analysis you will perform. If applying as a Global Analysis Center, describe the global analysis you will perform. Indicate your specific analysis interests and describe how you select the data you analyze. Our analysis interest is in improving systematic errors, particularly atmospheric and instrumental effects. Proposed model changes will be evaluated by comparing solutions for experiments involving the best stations, formerly the R&D experiments, using the SOLVK analysis package. Describe the computer hardware configuration and the software package(s) you use for analysis. SOLVK running on HP835 unix system.; matlab on a PC; fortran programs on the unix system. Internet connection type or bit rate: T1 Data storage capacity: 15 GB Describe any planned facility upgrades. None Number of full-time-equivalent personnel assigned to analysis center functions: 0.5 Indicate which data center(s) you use: cddis Indicate which of the following IVS Analysis Center functions you will perform and explain briefly how you will perform them: Provide timely feedback to stations Create high quality products and perform timely archiving and distribution Place final results (TRF, CRF, EOP, and others) in IVS Data Centers X Perform software development and documentation: We will develop software for modeling atmospheric effects and instrumental effects. We developed the model known as NMF (New Mapping Function) and it has proven effective in reducing unmodeled errors. We will pursue research efforts to improve the mapping function and explore its applicability to GPS analysis and comparisons of results. X Compare products: We will compare our analysis results using various models to determine the models that best reduce systematic error. We will compare our results with those of other software packages to explore the effects of modeling on final results. Adhere to IERS Conventions Attach a list of personnel (names and titles) whom you designate as IVS Associate Members through their affiliation with your analysis center. Dr. Arthur Niell, Principal Research Scientist, aniell@haystack.mit.edu Dr. Brian Corey, Research Scientist, bcorey@haystack.mit.edu Please provide any other information that you feel will be helpful in demonstrating your analysis center's capabilities to participate in the IVS. If you proposed to the IERS in 1995/6 as an analysis center and wish to have that proposal carry over to the IVS, please make such a statement in this proposal. Your signature on this form indicates your agreement to participate in the IVS as an Analysis Center and to work closely with the IVS Analysis Coordinator. If this is a new proposal (i.e. not carried over from IERS) your signature commits your organization to participate in the IVS.
