Analysis Center Response Form Joint CSTG/IERS Call for Participation International VLBI Service for Geodesy and Astrometry Analysis Center name: Institute of Applied Astronomy (IAA) Type of analysis center: global___ special_X_ Parent/Funding organization: Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Name and title of primary scientific/technical contact: Dr. Zinovy Malkin, Head, Laboratory of Space Geodesy and Earth Rotation Name and title of administrative contact: Dr. Zinovy Malkin, Head, Laboratory of Space Geodesy and Earth Rotation Mailing address: Zdanovskaya st., 8, St.Petersburg, 197110, Russia Phone: +7-(812)-235-32-01 Fax: +7-(812)- 230-74-13 E-mail address: malkin@ipa.rssi.ru Web address: www.ipa.rssi.ru If applying as a Special Analysis Center, describe the special type(s) of analysis you will perform. If applying as a Global Analysis Center, describe the global analysis you will perform. Indicate your specific analysis interests and describe how you select the data you analyze. The main goals of our analysis are: maintenance of celestial and terrestrial reference frames; determination of EOP (including operational EOP service); regional and global geodynamics; geophysics. For determination of celestial and terrestrial reference frames and determination of EOP we use mainly NEOS-A observations (IRIS for past epochs). NEOS Intensive sessions are planned for use. These observations are used for routine calculations of EOP and coordinate frames in the framework of cooperation with the IERS. Observations of CONT and SEARCH programs are used for investigations of Earth rotation (mainly for high-frequency variations of UT1 and Pole coordinates). All available experiments with participation of stations of the interest are used for gedynamics investigations. Describe the computer hardware configuration and the software package(s) you use for analysis. At the moment modified package OCCAM is being used for routine processing of observations. This package has been installed on Pentium computers. Universal program system ERA is modifed to provide independent tool for analysis of VLBI observations. Internet connection type or bit rate: 64 Kb/s Data storage capacity: about 4 GB on-line storage (can be eas ily increased when needed). CD ROM disks are used for data archiving. Describe any planned facility upgrades. All software and hard ware are continuously upgraded. We are working both on development of the OCCAM packag. and on development of proram system ERA to improve performance of results. New program package QUASAR is being designed on basis of the OCCAM package and new methods of data analysis. Number of full-time-equivalent personnel assigned to analysis center functions: 6 Indicate which data center(s) you use: We use two main sources for observational data: USNO - for operational EOP service (NEOS-A sessions); CDDIS - for non-operative analysis. Indicate which of the following IVS Analysis Center functions you will perform and explain briefly how you will perform them: Provide timely feedback to stations Should be discussed in more detailsbecouse we have not yet expirience in such kind of activity.; Create high quality products and perform timely archiving and distribution Yes,we have experience of such work in the framework of cooperation with IERS.; Place final results (TRF, CRF, EOP, and others) in IVS Data Centers Yes,we routinely submit results of our analysis to IERS and are ready to copy them to the IVS data center(s) and make needed modifications according to IVS requirements; Perform software development and documentation Yes, this is our every day work; Compare products Yes, we are willing to perform compar ison with various program packages of other analysis centers; Adhere to IERS Conventions Yes, we are trying to imple ment all IERS recommendations in our software. Though some topics should be discussed more thoroughly, i.e. relativistics, tides, antenna deformations. Attach a list of personnel (names and titles) whom you desig nate as IVS Associate Members through their affiliation with your analysis center. Dr. Zinovy Malkin, Head, Laboratory of Space Geodesy and Earth Rotation Elena Skurikhina, Scientific Researcher, Laboratory of Space Geodesy and Earth Rotation Prof. Vadim Gubanov, Head, Laboratory of New Methods in Astrometry and Geodynamics; Please provide any other information that you feel will be helpful in demonstrating your analysis center's capabilities to participate in the IVS. If you proposed to the IERS in 1995/6 as an analysis center and wish to have that proposal carry over to the IVS, please make such a statement in this proposal. The Institute of Apllied Astronomy has many-years experience in astrometric and geodetic analysis.of VLBI data.We partici pate in the IERS beginning from February 1996. Our results are used for IERS yearly combined solutions beginning from the IERS AR 1996. They also permanently used for operative calcu lation of EOP in the IERS CB. As we was informed recently, IERS Sub-bureau for Rapid Service and Predictions in the USNO plans to use our operational submissions for their combined solution. We have also many-years experience in development of methods, algorithms and software for both analysis various astrometirical and geodetic data and radio sources mapping. In September 1995 we proposed the IAA as IERS VLBI Analysis Center. Your signature on this form indicates your agreement to par ticipate in the IVS as an Analysis Center and to work closely with the IVS Analysis Coordinator. If this is a new proposal (i.e. not carried over from IERS) your signature commits your organization to participate in the IVS.
