International VLBI Service for Geodesy and Astrometry (IVS) Call for Nominations for IVS Directing Board Positions The CSTG VLBI Subcommission Steering Committee for the formation of IVS solicits nominations for the elected positions on the initial IVS Directing Board. The initial Directing Board of the IVS will be an important group that will determine the direction of growth for the IVS. We encourage people who are interested in helping contribute to the success of the new organization to become candidates for the Board. Nominations are due no later than 10 December 1998. Following is the list of Representative and At Large members of the initial Directing Board to be elected: Representative positions to be elected by IVS Associate Members: Correlators and Operation Centers representative 1 Analysis and Data Centers representative 1 Networks representatives 2 Technology Development Centers representative 1 At Large positions to be elected by Steering Committee: At Large members 2 --- Total number of elected positions 7 In addition to these 7 elected positions, there will be 4 ex officio representatives from the IAG, IAU, IERS, and the IVS Coordinating Center, as well as the Analysis Coordinator, Network Coordinator, and Technology Coordinator. There are a total of 14 positions. On the initial Directing Board some elected members will serve a 4-year term and some will serve a 2-year term so that all positions on the Board will eventually be staggered 4-year terms. The Steering Committee will assign the initial service terms. Nominations for the Representative positions will be accepted only from IVS components, and must be submitted by one of the technical/scientific or administrative contacts listed in the heading section of the IVS proposals. The list of IVS components is available at http://lupus.gsfc.nasa.gov/ivs/ivs.html. Nominations for the At Large positions will be accepted from any person who is an IVS Associate Member. You may nominate yourself for an At Large position. Only persons who are already IVS Associate Members are eligible to be nominated for any of the Directing Board positions. The list of Associate Members is available at http://lupus.gsfc.nasa.gov/ivs/ivs.html. To submit either a Representative or At Large nomination, please provide the information via e-mail as requested on the forms at the end of this message. Nominations will close at 00 UT on 10 December 1998. Elections for the Representative positions will be conducted via e-mail during the period 15 December 1998 through 6 January 1999. All Associate Members are eligible to vote for all Representative positions. For each Representative position, the candidate who receives the largest number of votes from the Associate Members will be elected. In case of a tie, the Steering Committee will vote on the tied candidates. After the Representative positions are decided by general vote, the Steering Committee will select the At Large members. The selection of At Large members will be done to balance representation from as many institutions and countries as possible.
